Meg and Dwight are both free and really good starting survivors. All of Meg's perks can be useful in certain builds, but her Sprint Burst is currently the best exhaustion perk in the game and Adrenaline is really good too. Dwight has Bond and Prove Thyself which let you see your teammates and pop gens fasters. For overall meta probably dead hard, windows, off the record, sprint burst, overcome, circle of healing, lithe, clairvoyance, prove thyself, adrenaline.
